About the class:
Are you finishing up one of our 6-week Intro units and are eager to learn even more Lindy Hop goodness?
Perhaps you've taken a bunch of classes but are still struggling with swingouts?
Or maybe you've done some Lindy Hop in the past and want to brushup on your technique?
Join Mattie & Dylan for 4 weeks of swingouts & turns! They'll share some tips & tricks to improve your dancing, and of course, teach you some sweet new moves. In this level, we will start to really focus on how moves & partnerships work on a deeper level.
This unit will focus on improving novice students' ability to execute swing-outs, and the partnership dynamics that make swingouts work, as well as more complex turns like tuck turns.
Students taking this class must have completed an RVA Swing Intro to Swing class series OR, at minimum, be able demonstrate 6 and 8 count Lindy rhythms with triple steps, basic inside/outside turns, and swing outs.
Important Level Stuff:
--If you only took the first few weeks of your Intro series, you are not prepared to take this class unless you make special arrangements to make up the material.
--If you have only learned 6-count swing (what most ballroom studios call "East Coast Swing") you will need to complete our 6 week Intro series before taking any Lindy 2 class at RVA Swing.
This class is a standard Rotating Partner class, and students will change partners throughout class.
About your instructors:
While Mattie Kelly began dancing Lindy Hop in 2013, they fell in love with swing dancing long before that (specifically, while watching Swing Kids in high school World History class). Since then, it has gloriously taken over their life, and they're pretty happy about that.
An educator by profession, Mattie knows that it takes more than technical skill to be an effective teacher. They are adept at meeting people where they are and encouraging growth from any skill level. As a teacher, Mattie is candid, adaptable, and the right amount of goofy.
Outside of the classroom, you can find Mattie solo dancing in most situations-- whether it's improvising on the social floor, practicing drills in the studio, or choreographing and performing with their teammates. If you really want to get them going, ask Mattie about their favorite version of Splanky.

Dylan Kilpatrick is the newest addition to the RVA Swing teaching staff and he has so many cool things to share with you, but a bio isn't one of them. Does anyone ready these? You tell me!👀😂
