About the class:

This class is our top level at the studio and is intended for dancers who have consistently attended our Improver Level (Level 3) for at least 6 months and who regularly attend social dances.

At this level, the material is instructor's choice and will be intended to challenge students and enrich their dancing. There is not a set syllabus.  The topic/material varies every month: always changing and always fun!

Important Level Stuff:

--This series is for experienced Lindy Hoppers who consistently attend classes and social dances

--A minimum of 6 months of attendance in Level 3 is required before attempting this level.

-- All students must be able to easily demonstrate a lindy phrase (aka 3 swingouts & a circle), tuck turns, and side-by-side Charleston at a variety of tempos

-- Students at this level should also be comfortable trying new rhythms and stylings and have a good understanding of conversational partnership dynamics in the dance.

This class is a standard Rotating Partner class, and students will change partners throughout class.

About your instructors:

Mike Herring is a tap and swing dancer, instructor, and choreographer with 30 years of experience. He started out doing shows in his living room at age 6 after watching the chimney sweep scene in Mary Poppins too many times.

Since then he has performed with the Boston Tap Company, DrumatiX, Ash Lawn Opera, the Charlottesville Ballet, Wilson School of Dance, the Greater Boston Stage Company, SwingCville, ACME Swing Mfg. Co, and Boston Lindy Hop. He has taught at many regional events such as Jammin on the James and The Process, as well as being a featured performer at Lindy Focus.

Cate started ballroom dancing in Georgia in 2006, but it wasn't until 2014 that the music, community, and capacity for expression of lindy hop stole her heart.

She is passionate about the multi-directional aspect of communication in partner dancing-- the conversation between musicians and dancers through the music, between a couple and anyone observing them, and between the lead and follow themselves. She loves and strives for balanced connections, playful improvisation, and musically-inspired movement in her dancing.

As a teacher, she enjoys breaking things down, building them back up, and seeing those joyful, dance "aha!" moments.
