About the class:

In this 6-week unit, current Balboa students will continue their Balboa & Bal-Swing journey, learning fun new moves and footwork variations. We'll also working on combining/flowing between Pure Bal & Bal-Swing

Because each class will build on the material in the previous class, registration is for the whole series only. (No single class drop-ins)

Students need to have both Pure Bal (close embrace) and Bal-Swing (open position) experience in order to take this class.  For current students, that means completion of Intro to Swing: Balboa and our Bal-Swing Basics series.  Pure Bal prerequisites: uphold & downhold basics, an understanding of close embrace connection, progressives, side scoots, paddles & comearounds. Bal-Swing prerequisites: lollies, out & ins, basic turns/tossouts.

Due to instructor travel, this class will feature 4 typical group classes on Jan 8th, 15th, 29th and Feb 12th. Ryan will be leading guided practice sessions on Jan 22nd and Feb 4th.  We have priced this series like a regular 4 week series, so the practice sessions are a bonus!

About Sliding Scale Pricing

Our sliding scale is about making dance more accessible to everyone, while also making sure our instructors are paid fairly for their time & labor.  You can choose from 4 prices at registration. Those in a position to pay a little more can choose to do so & help to support our community and sustain our studio space.

Supporter/Sustainer ($50/$60): suggested for those who easily meet their own needs and have plenty of expendable income. These registrations offset the discounted registrations from folks with fewer resources.

Standard ($40): suggested for those who meet their own needs and have some expendable income

Discounted ($20): suggested for those who struggle to meet their needs and/or don't have much expendable income

Shoe Policy

We spent over a month building our dance floor and we want it to stand the test of time! Help us keep it nice by following these basic guidelines:

-- Please remove your street shoes in our waiting area.

-- Please wear suede or leather-soled dance shoes (that have not been worn outside) for classes and dances.

-- If you don't own dance shoes, please bring a clean pair of flat shoes with non-marking soles to change into for classes/dances. This will help us keep grit and dirt off the floor. For Balboa you will want shoes that allow you to SLIDE. Avoid grippy/non-slip shoes like chucks/vans.
