What is Balboa? What is Bal-Swing?

Balboa is a specialized style of swing dancing that evolved in Southern California in response to the tightly packed dance floors and fast-paced music. Often danced in a close embrace, this dance typically features fast, intricate footwork and emphasizes partner connection and communication over visually flashy moves. "Bal-Swing" refers to moves danced in a more open partner position.

This is our favorite of all the swing-era dances and we are excited to share it with you!

About the Class

Took our recent "Intro to Balboa" class series? This class is for you.

Can do a Balboa basic, some simple close-embrace patterns, come-arounds, and lollies but want to branch out into more bal-swing combos? This class is for you.

Taken some Balboa/Bal-Swing in the past & would like a review? Perfect! This class is for you, too.

In this special 4-week unit, we will build on our Intro class and explore more open-position moves and turns.

No partner required.

Because each class will build on the material in the previous class, registration is for the whole series only.

(No single class drop-ins without prior instructor approval.)
